_These are keywords used in the animal kingdom template._
**Theme Terms**
---------------
Animal Kingdom has customized the display names of keywords and card types. When templates are created, they are created using generic terminology. Your player avatar character is called a "hero" and the characters you place on the board to fight are "units". Animal Kingdom has set the display names of these card types to Kings and Animals as per the theme of this game. However the ids of the card types are still referred to as units and heroes by the program. This allows different games to use the same rules even though they have different themes. You can set display names by going to admin->gameplay and looking at the card types section.
**Common Terms** **Common Terms**
---------------- ----------------
**Play** **Effect**
The 'effect' refers to what the card does, the text on the card explains the 'effect', it can be anything from dealing damage to becoming stronger whenever another card is put into play.
To play a card means to activate it, or in the case of units to place it on the Board.
**Invoke**
To play a card and trigger all relevant abilities except unit's "Invoke" ability without incurring costs.
**Play**
To 'play' a card means when the player actively clicks and drags a card from their hand into play. This excludes any effects that "summons" or forces a card to activate or be put into play without direct player input.
**Summon** **Summon**
To 'summon' a card means to place it into play by ANY means, this includes 'playing' them from hand or by any effect from other cards.
Create a card and bring it into the match. Then invoke it. **Spawn**
To 'spawn' means to create a new copy of a card.
**Discover**
To 'discover' means to pick 1 of 3 (sometimes more) pre-existing cards, the picked card is then subject to some effect defined by whatever effected caused the 'discover' in the first place.
**Conjure**
To 'conjure' is similar to 'discover' but means to pick 1 of 3 (sometimes more) non-existing cards, the picked card is then created as a new copy (i.e 'spawned') and is added to your hand.
